Dirt...It Tastes Like Chicken?

Sammy loves dirt. Seriously. I have to work very hard when we are outside to keep him out of my flower beds. He pays no attention to the flowers--he wants to play in the dirt. Dry dirt, muddy dirt...no matter.

He even eats dirt when given the chance. The other day when we were outside I caught him with a large clump of dirt, poised and ready to shove into his mouth. Of course I tried to stop him...too late. He swallowed the whole thing and then smiled at me with the biggest, muddiest, smile ever. So gross.

A guy's gotta fill this big 'ole tummy somehow, huh?

Untold Stories

Well, for the sake of the grandparents I am going to try to start journaling some of the funny/crazy/weird things these two boys of mine do that make life around here so fun! Toddlerhood is providing tons of these funny stories, but we don't always remember to relay them on the phone, so I will try to keep you posted here!

Let's start with this one:

I was outside with the boys working in the flowerbeds on Tuesday evening. I was thinning out and transplanting some of the irises. Alex was in charge of watering--the child loves the hose. Thankfully there is good drainage in my flowerbeds as Alex was pretty much trying to recreate the Biblical Deluge in my yard. Sam in charge of playing in the dirt and hopefully not eating any--a fave of his. Well, it was a pretty warm night and before I knew it Alex had started watering his feet, hands, pantlegs. No big deal...have fun kiddo! At one point I saw him hold the hose over his head, "I watey (water) Alex!" was his breathless exclamation. Still no big deal. Plant another iris. All of the sudden I hear Sam take in a huge, shocked breath...turn around...Alex is watering Sam. Yep holding the hose directly over his head, water cascading down the poor boy! He never cried, just looked shocked! We've been talking about how the plants grow with water and sunshine, so maybe he was trying it out on Sammy!!

Decorating Easter Eggs

Alex loves eggs, so he was instantly excited about this new project!

Poor Sam was so sad to not be able to get in on the action. But he in that completely destructive phase right now and there was no way that boy could get too close to cups of dye! We felt so bad for him so daddy came up with a way for Sammy to get invovled.

I think this was right before Sam threw the egg on the ground, it cracked, and he said "uh-oh!"

Alex was very diligent about counting the number of times each egg got dipped.

this was right before Sam squeezed the egg so hard he crushed it!! ;-) Captain Destructo strikes again!!

These are our eggs on our new egg tray that we actually made as a family! A lady in our church has a small ceramic shop so we went there a few weeks ago and painted this egg tray just for Easter. It was a really fun time and now we have this to bring out every Easter to remember it!

Alex's 1st Buzz Cut !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "Before" Pic...

"Wait, I liked that hair! I think I want a second opinion!!!"

"Ahhh, the cool comfort of a popsicle!" (or as Alex says it a "posicky"

After bath time, all clean and buzzed up!

Easter Egg Hunt

Mom, Jen, and Grandma came for Easter. It was the first year since we've been married that we had family with us on Easter Sunday--it was nice. Dad couldn't come cuz he had to work, but he came on Tuesday. On Saturday we had a little egg hunt with the boys. We only had 11 eggs, so it wasn't a huge to-do, but Alex really enjoyed it! Sam, well, he could have cared less, he just wanted to be held that day! We hid the eggs while the boys napped and then had our hunt when they woke up--then we went out for pizza! It was a fun afternoon! (I just realized that I haven't even posted the pics of decorating the eggs yet...I'll try to do that tomorrow.)

Our Little Monkey

Alex came running out to the kitchen the other day saying "Sam-by, Sam-by!" So I ran out to the livingroom to see what was the matter and found Sammy up on top of the back of the couch--his favorite perch with Daddy--all by himself! That boy can climb!

These two like to watch the neighbors and then gossip about all the juicy goings-on!! ;-)

Hi Josh!

Our friend Josh had a fun video on his blog for Alex which he loved! In fact as asked, "Josh, one more time?" so many times that I think we actually watched the video 5 or 6 times in a row! Josh, you were quite the movie star at our house the other day! So we thought it would be fun to do a video for you! The first part is Alex doing his first Bible verse. The rest is supposed to be him singing his abc's, but he lets mommy sing a solo for most of it! figures! He does know the whole song, sang it with me on the video this morning when he watched it! What a goob! Anyway, all that to say a big "HI" to our little friends Josh and Noah! Miss you!
p.s. sorry the video is sideways. My bad!

Some Backyard Fun

For Alex, "outside" is not just one word. He says it more like this: "outside-play! outside-play!" Which is usually followed by "slide!" or "bubbles!" his two great loves, whichever he thinks of first. For Sam "outside" means room to run. The child will not stay put. He would be running all over the neighborhood if we would let him. We are trying to teach him the boundaries of our yard, but it is slow in coming. Sam's motto apparently is: don't fence me in!

Zoom, Zoom

I have found that as the only female in a house full of males in order to survive and be counted as worthy I must, in fact, sharpen my skills at mastering the necessary sound effects. Namely those associated with modes of transportation--the words "zoom, zoom" don't get far with these guys!! Here is my inspiration:
